Exploring quiet, inward moments, dusk lamps, and the poetic geometry of domestic life through fluid ink and watercolour washes.
Sohel Rana is a Bangladeshi visual artist working from his studio in Ramna, Dhaka, whose practice focuses on expressive watercolour painting and the intimate poetry of everyday life.
He has participated in prominent group exhibitions and art camps across Bangladesh and internationally, including exhibitions in Malaysia and Nepal. Working with delicate pigment washes and expressive calligraphic ink lines, his work concentrates on the quiet interior worlds of women, the domestic atmosphere of dusk, and the emotive resonance of memory.
His paintings capture moments suspended between labour and rest, contemplation and observation: a solitary figure lighting a diya, a glance away from the world, or a contemplative pause enveloped in warm vermilion and deep shadow.
“My paintings explore quiet, inward moments in the lives of women: a lamp lit at dusk, a contemplative pause, or a glance away from the world. Working with expressive ink lines and fluid, transparent watercolour washes, I allow colour to bloom, bleed and settle on the paper. Through warm vermilion, indigo, green and deep shadow, I seek an atmosphere of memory, emotion and the poetry of domestic life.”
